It all started when, for a previous business, I needed a website. I asked a few quotes. And I was very surprised when I received them to realise they were all around $5000 +gst for a 4 pages standard website.
This was a small new business and I couldn’t afford that kind of money as I had a lot more things I needed to spend my money in to get the business running.
I kept asking quotes, and after many of them I found a small company in the South Island that was happy to make a website for me for a much more reasonable price. I went with them. But after a month or so they still had not produced anything. And when they finally produced something, it was of such poor quality I couldn’t really use the website as is.
After some extra digging, I realised that the NZ company was actually only a middle man, and was subcontracting the work to people overseas.
I needed a website, the company I had contracted was not going to make anything usable, so I decided to leave them and create my website myself.
Having to learn everything from scratch, it took some time, but I ended up with something I was happy with that almost only did cost me my time.
That is when I realized that there was not many website developers that were happy to build small website for small companies at a reasonable price.
